My first art in ages, been focusing on music - so made sense for my first project to be my violin case - something I get to keep for a change :) have got two more cases lying around so won't be the only one, but will paint a bag & the amp next.

art & life

Still haven't done any painting for ages - as I said earlier - am thinking of switching to hardboard, but haven't got around to pursuing that - would be nice to do some really big works - see how that goes.

But for now I'm really busy with work, as in for money, the boring but at the moment essential kind. Not much time for more than sleeping & eating (& being put on hold for hours on the phone by various agencies that I unfortunately have to deal with in my not so spare time).

This will wind down in winter, & then I'd like to think I'll get back into some serious painting. (not that my work's that serious - but you know what I mean). I take my work very seriously in that I love painting & work hard at it. I'm very interested in layering at the moment, layering different textures, using stenciling, experimenting with different ways of applying paint etc So it's all just happening in my head but not coming out. a bit frustrating but that's life.

haven't done any painting for a while - among other things my supplier of cheap canvas's has finally run out, may switch to hardboard or other materials - hope to get back into it soon - been fully into violin though which took a back seat while I was painting - so it's all good I guess :-) watch this page

Summer Love

'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' - sunflowers

this latest painting reminded me of the Beatles song "Lucy in the sky with diamonds"

for kids or "kidults" (those adults who can still remember what it's like to be a kid and secretly still are lol)

It looks like a quilt but it's not, just paint, I love quilting but am too lazy to do it myself, so iI just admire the work of others & make mine with paint :-)

having trouble catching the colours and the detail with my camera today. The original is brighter and some of the subtle detail is lost in this photo. So this is more of an impression of the painting.

'heartful'

had fun doing this 'heartful' little painting :-)

Although it's a relatively simple design, I've use a variety of painting techniques to add interest and texture. With this painting I experimented with stencilling, stipple brush work and blended colour, as well as my trademark dot work.

just a little pic I did for my neighbours grandaughter, I liked the flower technique I used in my previous painting, and wanted to play with it some more.

Taking time ....

made a decision when I began the last painting to take more time with my paintings, beacause the ones that take longer, are more satisfying to me personally. So although in a world where bills need to be paid, the temptation is to churn the work out, I find for me resisting that temptation leads to work that is more potent. Less is more ( I hope! )

I've been working a lot with layering paint. Putting patterns on top of patterns, and creating textures with application of colour and different kinds of paintwork. I want to experiment with layers a lot more.

This painting has the feeling of a quilt, part of my "fabrication" series. I have always admired quilting and mosaics, but have come to the sad realisation that I will never be a quilt, or mosaic artist because I can't be bothered lol. My commitment is to paint, and developing in that medium, but it doesn't stop me from borrowing from other art forms and mediums in my work :-)

I like the way quilts have been used traditionally to tell womens stories, and pass on these stories to others. Painting is how I tell my story. I also like the way quilters put together fabrics, and fabric designs that wouldn't usually be found together, but they weave them together with a magic that I love.

it's all part of the "fabric" of society. Throughout history we have used fabrics to express our values, our identity, our heritage and our culture. We use fabrics to express ourselves, to harmonise, and to rebel. I may not be a fabric artist, but I love fabrics, and the way that paint itself can only ever produce a "fabricated" version of reality.

been working on this painting for the last couple of months, now it is as close as to being finished. It's called "what happens when your world collides with mine"
It's not just about the impact of a lover, although it could be that, but about the powerful transformative impact that happens when our world collides with anothers, and we let ourselves merge and grow through that connection. Sometimes the effect is beautiful and the collision is more like a dance, other times we get broken up for a while by the impact of another beings world on ours. I like the idea of marbles crashing into each other...but I like the viewer to find their own meaning in my paintings, so the impact my world has on you may be different than I planned or expected :-)
